Center for Learning and Writing Opens in Meyer Library
Starting June 10, 2009, Springfield campus students will find tutoring for all Math courses and assistance from the Writing Center in the Meyer library. During the summer session hours will be Monday through Thursday, 10:00am to 3:00pm.
Located in the southeast area of the first floor of Meyer Library, the Bear Claw (Center for Learning and Writing) is being developed as part of an interactive learning space in the library. The goal is to unite the resources and expertise of faculty, library personnel, computer and information technology, the Writing Center, subject-area tutoring, and supplemental instruction in an environment that fosters informal, collaborative work, and social interaction. One of the first objectives for the Bear Claw is to develop subject-area tutoring, providing a tutor for any subject that a student requests.
To see how the space is being developed and some of the work involved take a look at the
project’s blog.

Paperback Leisure Reading Collection
The Paperback Leisure Reading Collection has been moved to the Lower Level in the curved stairway seating area. There is ample soft seating and bench seating to enjoy browsing through the paperbacks and the popular magazines. The paperbacks have a brief listing in the online catalog by both author and title, are shelved in alphabetical order by last name of the author, and can be checked out for 4 weeks at a time. They make great summertime reading! By the way, all are donations to the library by other paperback readers.

Meyer Library Current Periodicals and Newspapers Moved to Lower Level
Current periodicals and newspapers in Meyer Library have been moved to the Lower Level. The new location is to the east of the elevators next to the Maps Collection. Back issues of newspapers are now located next to the Microforms desk. Having current periodicals on the Lower Level places them closer to back issues located in either the compact shelving or on microfilm in Microforms Collection. There are multiple photocopiers on the Lower Level as well as computers for searching the Libraries’ catalog.
