The collection was acquired mainly in 2003-2004. It was processed in 2006 by Tracie Gieselman-Holthaus and Shannon Western, with assistance from Meagan Royston. These records were obtained during the course of a National Historical Publications and Records Commission grant-funded project to enhance the University Archives.

Biographical/Historical Sketch
The Office of Publications, University Communications, and Photo Services represent three units responsible for Missouri State University’s public relations, or University Relations. The Office of Publications was created in 1985 to produce the University’s printed visual materials, such as recruitment publications, alumni relations materials, promotional items, signage, and the magazines Missouri State Insider and Missouri State.
The Publications staff provides graphic design, editing, and writing services, in addition to guidance in usage of the university identity standard.

Scope and Content
The Publications Collection documents the changing face of the University, as well as the changes in publication design. The collection spans 1980 to 2006, with publications representing numerous university departments and offices.
Near the end of the 1993 fiscal year, the Publications Office began assigning each publication job a special code. This code listed an abbreviation of the office requesting the materials, the publication number, and the last two numbers of the fiscal year. Publications in the collection are filed under the abbreviation given to the office requesting the material, and filed by academic year. If an academic year could not be determined, the material was filed by the fiscal year code. When possible, three copies of each publication were saved.

Series I: Publications
This series holds materials created by the Office of Publications. Please note that this collection does not
represent all materials created by the Office of Publications. Other materials may be filed with the materials of
the requesting office (e.g., recruiting brochures from Admissions).
Publications are arranged in alphabetical order by the abbreviation of the requesting office, and filed according to academic or fiscal year. Oversized items were removed from the folders, and moved to an oversized box and map case drawer. An item-by-item list can be found in the box list.
