Biographical/Historical Sketch

The Department of Industrial Education (later renamed the Department of Industrial Management) was organized in 1948. Industrial Education and the Agriculture Department were housed in a steel building at the corner of Grand and Carrington. This building (now known as the Art Annex) was moved from Camp Crowder as part of the federal plan to “provide educational facilities for veterans”. In 1975, Kemper Hall was constructed as the new industrial arts building.

This department offered various clubs and organizations for students interested in the industrial arts, including The Industrial Education Club, the American Institute for Design and Drafting, and the Electronics Club. A chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau was chartered in 1958.

Scope and Content

The collection includes materials pertaining to the department and related club/ organizational activities. Photographic materials include headshots of faculty; photos and slides of students, equipment, projects, fairs and conferences, and buildings; and slides from departmental presentations. Some photograph folders contain negatives.
The bulk of the Awards and Recognition materials is information from plaques.

Over the years, the department has been called Industrial Education, Industrial Technology, and Industrial Management. It should be noted that the bulk of the collection is labeled Industrial Education, while the department is currently referred to as Industrial Management.
