Garnett Library: Reserves

Placing Items on Reserve

A Course Reserve collection consisting of books, book chapters, articles, and audiovisual items is available at Missouri State University - West Plains Garnett Library and also at Barbe Library on the Missouri State University - West Plains Extended Campus at Mountain Grove.

To place an item on Reserve, instructors may contact the Circulation/Shelving Supervisor at Garnett Library. Use of materials should be in compliance wtih copyright laws. For repeat use of Reserve items, instructors may contact Garnett Library staff to ask for copyright clearance from the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC).

Reserves can be searched by course and by instructor from the Course Reserves.

Faculty Guidelines for Reserves

  • Garnett Library books, articles, audiovisual resources, and personal resources may be placed on reserve. (Note: We cannot place items from other libraries on reserve.)
  • One copy of copyrighted material may be placed on reserve for one semester. For multiple copies or repeat articles, copyright clearance is needed. Placing items on reserve requires that you comply with copyright law (see Missouri State University - West Plains Faculty Handbook 2.3.6)
  • Garnett Library staff can request copyright permission for your Reserves using the library account with the Copyright Clearance Center.
  • The library staff requests three working days (Monday through Friday) to prepare materials and add them to the online reserve list. To insure availability for students, please place reserve requests early in the semester.
  • Instructors may select reserves times from the following options: 2 hours, 1 day, 3 days, or 7 days.

For Students to Use Course Reserves

  • A Missouri State University photo ID is needed to check out reserve material. If the Missouri State University ID is non-photo, a picture ID is also required.
  • All materials, including 2-hour library reserves, are checked out on the student's account.
  • Fines are $1.00 per day late.
  • Faculty will provide students with the passwords for course reserves.
